Three-time MVP Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself towards the end of the second quarter in an unintentional coming together with teammate Jones.
His teammate stepped on the footwear of the MVP, who promptly went down to the ground grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the league this season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.
Jokic will have an scan on Tuesday to assess the severity of the injury.
"Instantly, he knew he was hurt," said Denver coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who is injured, it's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as special as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Clearly, right now, I'm focused just about him as a person and the letdown of going through an event of that nature."
