The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
