The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
