New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.
“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”
The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.
“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
