Jurgen Klopp states a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead another team within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties a week.

“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Commending Arne Slot

Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash alongside his brother recently.

“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
