The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions this season because of a health issue she has been fighting over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but opted to return home to recover prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.
These plans will include trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.
Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring during her first-round match versus Ann Li in Wuhan and withdrew when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
Another medical visit was necessary a doctor's assessment at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
Raducanu was also moving noticeably restricted in the final set against Zhu owing to a lower back issue that has affected her during parts of the season.
Those results followed a positive campaign, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in last month's Beijing event.
She secured 28 matches this year and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed during the tournament before losing in a three-set match to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She was coached by trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig taking over in time for the US Open.
The first plan with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but the collaboration persists, with a training session scheduled late this year.
Raducanu told that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She nearly succeeded to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati during August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
