Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
His passing follows shortly after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
